The Schtick: A fairly standard Anejo, this is Codigo 1530 Anejo, a release from George Strait’s tequila brand.
Review #1996 | Tequila Review #32
Distiller: Varo Destileria
Bottler: Varo Destileria
Brand: Codigo
Selection:
ABV: 40% ABV
Age: NAS
Nose: Roasty agave, some vanilla. Sweet pear, a bit of cream, and a hint of stone and minerality. Light clay, sweet fruitiness.
Taste: Oak is present here, but well enough integrated. A bit of cocoa, caramel, roasty vanilla bean and a touch of cinnamon and tannin. Light mouthfeel, no real heat.
Finish: Medium finish that’s dry, a bit on the fruity side. Caramel, vanilla, more roasted agave notes and a touch of oak.
Overall: Overall, it’s not bad. It won’t best some of the really crazy Anejo’s or extra Anejo’s out there, but it’s just fine.
