Del Maguey Minero

The Schtick: Distilled in Saint Catarina Minas, this Minero expression from Del Maguey was produced in 2016 using a clay still and carries an ancestral designation – recently snagged by yours truly in the backwoods of Wisconsin.

Review #1946 | Mezcal Review #194

Distiller: Undisclosed

Bottler: Del Maguey

Brand: Del Maguey

ABV: 49% ABV

Age: NA

Nose: Bright and exceptional clay forward. Rich soil, clay, a bright grapefruit note. Some lactic sour character, bright citrus and pepper.

Taste: Complex on the palate – sweet and creamy at first, before it turns funky and acidic. Incredibly rich mouthfeel, almost reminiscent of a Pechuga. Grapefruit, honeydew, citrus, lime especially.

Finish: Long finish. Sweet cream, then turns to a drying clay, soil, pepper profile. Rye bread. Love the dryness.

Overall: This is all over the place, and when paired with the bonkers mouthfeel, it’s a total winner.
