Maguey Melate Julio Topete Becerra Maximiliana

The Schtick: Distilled as a Raicilla, this rare release is the first raicilla in the Maguey Melate portfolio. Distilled by Julio Topete Becerra, this should be pretty interesting. Let’s see how it is.

Review #1790 | Raicilla Review #159

Distiller: Julio Topete Becerra

Bottler: Maguey Melate

Brand: Maguey Melate

Selection:

ABV: 50% ABV

Age: NA

Nose: Sweet, fruity, lactic, savory – all over the board. Extremely interesting. Orange, vanilla bean, sour and lactic complexity. Wild and interesting. Whew.

Taste: Fruity at first with red berries, currant, strawberry and then a glue and varnish note. Interesting and wild. Some lactic influence on the back palate. A bit of pepper. Faintly musty.

Finish: Grows a bit more bitter on the finish. Sweet at first, then bitter, growing more musty. Reminiscent of some funky cheeses, sweet like gruyere, with some garlic and salinity.

Overall: Wild, interesting, fun.

Thanks for reading!
