Origen Raiz Durango

The Schtick: This is a revisit of a spirit I’ve tried once before, and had the opportunity to revisit on a fresh palate. This past month’s Maguey Melate box came with a 50ml sample of this, so the stage was set just right. Distilled from Cenizo on Copper, this comes to us as a brand headed by Asis Cortes. Let’s get to it.

Nose: Sweet and roasty, lots of pineapple, apple, roasted corn and pepper. Lovely minerality here, faintly floral, some nice cream.

Taste: Thin to medium mouth feel on the palate. Sweet honey, light almond, nice pepper and a papaya note that is really enticing. Faint pepper, light bubblegum.

Finish: Long, rich and loaded with fruit and sweet notes. Pineapple, mango, papaya, vanilla cream, faint bubble gum.

Overall: Lovely and complex, this is really something. I’m all over it.

Thanks for reading!
