Wollersheim Distillery Coquard Brandy

The Schtick: This is a release from Wollersheim, featuring a distillation of their wine on a pot still, bottled at 42% ABV. Distilled just up the road from me, I’m looking forward to giving this a go. Let’s dive in.

Distiller: Wollersheim

Bottler: Wollersheim

Brand: Wollersheim

Selection:

ABV: 42% ABV

Age: 2 Years

Nose: Bright nose, lots of grape, fig, some melon, hint of sulfur. Sweet and fruit forward, with a hint of oak. Faint must, but satisfying overall.

Taste: Thin on the palate, but caramel forward with lots of fruit character in play as well. No bitterness, some nice oak. A hair thinner than the Bottled In Bond that they also produce, but I like it. Lighter and less pungent, though not with less flavor.

Finish: Longer finish here, sweet wine character and oak balance nicely. Toffee, vanilla bean, some lavender and floral essence.

Overall: I wouldn’t put this in a cocktail as it’s drinking Well neat, and very well, at that. A bit lighter, but not as the sacrifice of flavor, I’m pretty impressed by this as well. This expression does a great job letting the floral and fruity characters spotlight, with just enough oak to keep things in check. Really nice.

Thanks for reading!
